XBOX(old) conversion to 100% Linux.

I have been using a modified XBOX to run XBMC for a while now and really like it.  The only problem is that all the media is served from a large hard drive in my main computer.  This means that if I want to listen to music or watch a home movie I have to have the main computer on.  Needless to say that sucks after a while.

Found out that there are ways to convert your XBOX to run 100% linux and the best part is it can be done WITHOUT a mod chip!!!

I now have a Linux XBOX running Xebian with a 500gb hard drive in it and I willl detail that here:

New Ride

2003 Fatboy

Well, I finally did it. After many months thinking about it and the need for a larger motorcycle I went out and picked this one up.

I was looking for a mid sized bike that could hold two people comfortably when necessary but still be small enough for a daily driver. My old bike was a 86 Magna 700 and while it carried me just fine it was a little cramped when two people were on it.

This bike has a great ride and plenty of power for me and my wife. It was already decked out by the previous owner with most of the necessary accessories for longer rides. Saddlebags, windscreen, touring passenger seat, and the Road Tech radio. The only additional that is missing for me is the passenger foot boards (mine still has foot pegs) .

As it would figure the day I picked it up it rained almost the entire day. But today(Sunday) is supposed to be clear so I am just waiting for the roads to dry.

Replacement has arrived

Wow is all I can say about the guys at dlplampsource.com.  The replacement bulb arrived at my doorstep by 11:30 this morning.  Very easy to change and the TV is working great, in fact it is super bright at my old brightness setting.  To save the extra overnight shipping cost (they provide free ground shipping) I am going to order another replacement next month so that I have one on hand.  Another good thing about dlplampsource.com is that they offer a 1 year guarantee on each bulb.  One thing to mention is htat when you call for help you may get re-directed to a voice mail box.  I would normally not bother leaving a message with the promise of a return since most places will not return the call.  BUT, they actually called me back!!.

NO TV!!

Got a call from my son today.  The TV stopped working, or more importantly the bulb stopped working.  DLP TV’s are great until the bulb burns out.

So here I am, trying to find one.  The internet is the only place to find them.  The local guy who did have one refused to sell it to me and insisted that he come out and install it.  That wouldn’t happen until Monday(today if Friday).   I told him I would pay for the service call and still put it in myself, I mean its easier that screwing in a regular bulb.  It is plug and play.  But,  nooooo, he wouldn’t sell it to me.  So its off to the internet.  Found a place called https://www.dlplampsource.com they had it in stock and would even overnight it for me.  Best part is that the total cost even with overnight Saturday delivery is still cheaper than the local guy.

This brings me to my next observation.  I always hear about the poor local Mom and Pop store that is being put out by the Big Bad Business.  Well the Big Bad Business like in this example is doing the right thing for me the customer and the local Mom and Pop place refused to help me the customer.  So the local guy lost out not because of the Big Bad Business, but because of his refusal to bend a little for the customer.

Thats all for now.  I should have some free time tonight to work on the site.

Lunar Image

This is it, the final resting place for all my photography musings. I will try to keep this one updated as I have either things to say or find really cool stuff that I think are worth sharing.
